I am excited to share this new layout I created using papers from the Maggie Holmes Style Board collection and Becky Higgins Project Life 3x4 cards. Inspired by Glitter Girl Adventure 076: Not Just Geography, I created this really pretty layout with soft pastel colours, map motifs and a single 4x6 photo.

The wood grain pattern and florals in the collection are just to-die-for. I absolutely fell in love with the white parquet wood paper and decided I definitely wanted to use it as a full sheet in the background. I just love the way it brings a light, organic, worn, distressed feel to the page. Next, I chose the multi-coloured floral from the collection and pulled my colour scheme from there-aqua blue, green, pink, and white. I cut a few boxes of coordinating paper and layered them behind the photo to give it a place to rest, then I brought in four 3x4 cards to tuck in among the layers. For my embellishment, I started with two floral pieces from a Heidi Swapp chipboard sticker sheet and layered them around the photo. Taking cues from the the inspiration page, I also wanted to bring in some map and travel motifs. I had the same set of thickers Glitter Girl used in my stash, which are American Crafts letter stickers in the font Everywhere, and was inspired to use them for my title. I also used a tile alphabet that came in a Momenta Scrapbook Pad to create a multi-font title. Glitter Girl used a globe stamp and a circle punch to cut out three small globes to scatter in three places across the page. I didn’t have a similar stamp, so I decided to use a technique I have liked to use lately, which is to simply punch circles from map paper to create an embellishment that resembles a globe. With the title and embellishment, i wanted to bring in some neutral colours, since there was already plenty of colour on the page, so I ended up using a lot of brown. The inspiration page also incorporated star stickers in the embellisment, which I was easily able to bring in to my own page with some gold paper and a small star punch. I created three embellishment clusters made up of a bunched up length of white sewing thread, a globe cut with a ¾ inch circle punch and popped up on a pop dot, and a gold star. As a finishing touch, I did something Glitter Girl often does, which is to add three rhinestones in a triangle around the cluster, covering edges of the layers underneath to bring it all together.

I feel that this ended up looking like a highly embellished page, with lots of beautiful touches, even though I hardly used any premade embellishments. Aside from the two chipboard flowers I tucked behind the photo, everything on the page is made from patterned paper and a few supplies I had in my stash: paper punches, string, and rhinestones. I found these particular rhinestones and thread at my dollar store for only a dollar each. And even though most of the embellishment is paper, there is still a variety of texture on the page. The distressed wood grain background, pop dots, the gold accents, the string, and the rhinestones all add texture and dimension to the page. I think these are some good techniques for anyone scrapbooking on a budget or who doesn't want to spend a ton of money to spend on costly embellishment packs, but they are just as pretty.
